Your guide will show you the best sights of Lower Old Town. You will admire the medieval city fortification wall, St.Catherine´s Passage craftsmen work and discover the location of the worlds first public Christmas Tree – Town Hall Square and Town Hall. The Town Hall Pharmacy is the oldest pharmacy in Europe that has continuously been in business in the same spot. There you will learn the secrets behind marzipan.

Our tour continues with a visit to the Gingerbread Art Exhibition. Everything you see at the exhibition is made from gingerbread. Although you probably will not see too many traditional gingerbread men or houses at this annual, modern art exhibit. This rather a very unique display showcasing anything from mythological characters to life-size gingerbread art. Every year the exhibition has a different theme and known artists, designers, and architects turn some 300 kg of dough into unique creations. While admiring the artwork you can hear music from local composers written specially for this event.

Gingerbreads were made already during the Middle Ages using wooden molds and elaborately decorated gingerbreads were considered works of art. Your guide will lead you through the art exhibition and fascinating history of gingerbread. Finally it´s possible to learn best tips how to make and decorate gingerbreads in a hands-on workshop.
